You have made the decision to use Microsoft 365 as your productivity platform, you have also already purchased your custom domain from a domain registrar such as Godaddy. Now it is time to create and setup your new Microsoft 365 tenant.
In this article I am going to cover how you can sign up for and create a new Microsoft 365 tenant by purchasing direct with Microsoft.

Creating your Microsoft 365 tenant
In this demonstration I will be purchasing a Microsoft 365 business basic plan. It is worth noting you must purchase a license or activate a trial when creating a new commercial tenant direct with Microsoft. This means you will need to enter payment card information right away. Other options would include working with a CSP for them to create your tenant, but you would still need to enter a billing agreement with that CSP.
- Start by choosing the license plan you wish to commit to. In my case I am going to select Microsoft 365 Business Basic add sign up to the trail.
Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/business and select under the license you wish to purchase; Or try free for one month.
- You will then see the Let’s get you started page. Enter your desired email address with your custom domain.
- You will see the following prompt stating you will need to create a new account. Click Set up account.
- Complete all the requested information on the Tel us about yourself page and click Next.
- Complete the phone verification.
- Choose your admin username and Microsoft domain then click save on the right hand side. Enter a strong password and click Next.
- On the final page you need to enter the quantity of licenses you wish to purchase and click Add payment method. You will not be charged until the end of the trail period however. If at this stage you do not wish to enter your payment info and start the trail, you can exit out of this page and in a private window, sign in to https://admin.microsoft.com/ with the details you previously provided.
